There are just some things that never get old. I have a pair of worn leather boots that I just can’t part with and a J. Crew camel colored coat that I got in ’96 that I still wear from time to time.
I never tire of eating my mom’s Shrimp Creole for Christmas dinner and my engagement ring still makes me swoon.
I’m also not giving up black and white in my home decor any time soon. In fact, after 17 years, I have never tired of my kitchen chairs. When Bill and I bought our first home in 2001, I found these beautiful 1920’s dining chairs in an antique mall. Someone had painted the frames black, which was all the rage at the time. Besides the affordable price, which I still can’t believe, I adored the lines, the style and the history of these chairs.
On a mission to find seat fabric, my mom helped me settle on a bold black and white Buffalo Check because of its charm and timelessness.Currently, this black and white Buffalo Check is popping up all over the place. My favorite home decorating stores and catalogs, magazine covers, and practically every photo on my Pinterest and Instagram newsfeed are all rocking this pattern in some way. It is huge right now! It’s popularity is nothing new though. This timeless, classic pattern is just going through some sort of a revival, sparking new ways to use it in your home.
Black and white Buffalo check has worked with my own twists and transitions in decorating throughout the years. The pattern fits into a range of interior styles, from traditional to modern, and it is also one of those fabrics that pairs well with other patterns. I believe it works as a solid, serving as a backdrop to other decor in the room. The texture it adds and the charm it brings to a home continues to be fresh even though it has existed for so long. We got a lot of mileage out of these chairs and they are still going strong.
Looking to add some black and white buffalo check to your home for a timeless, yet on-trend look?
Start with pillows, throws and kitchen accessories for an affordable way to use the pattern. If you are really ready for this commitment, go for a larger statement piece. You just can’t go wrong with this black and white pattern no matter what your style is.

I absolutely love classic patterns like this, they’re great for decor you plan to hold on to for a while. We don’t have this pattern in our home (although I do love those chairs!) but we do use black and white a lot.
