These baked ham and ooey-gooey cheese sandwiches are a hit for a large casual get together or perfect for a Sunday football game. The butter, onion, and mustard mixture make these anything but an ordinary ham and cheese sandwich. You can’t eat just one!
My mom always knew the perfect meal to put together for every occasion. We usually gathered around the dinner table, but sometimes a meal called for standing around the island or sitting in front of the television.
Whether we had a house full of guests or the varsity football game ended late, mom turned to these scrumptious sandwiches to feed a crowd or her busy kids.I recently threw these little sammies together and popped them in the refrigerator overnight. We were anticipating a full day of basketball games, Christmas tree shopping and Christmas decorating all while the Steelers blasted on the TV.
I enlisted the help of my MC to set up an assembly line and build these little sandwiches. They come together quickly and easily. They have the perfect bite of onion and mustard. And they can be prepared the night before which is perfect if you are anticipating a large gathering or a hectic day. It’s hot melted cheese you can’t resist! My first bite is so nostalgic! You seriously can’t eat just one! What is your favorite baked sandwich?
- 1 stick butter
- 1 tsp. onion grated without the juice
- 1/4 cup mustard
- 1 tsp. poppy seeds
- Soft rolls
- Thinly sliced ham
- American cheese
-
Let butter soften, but do not melt.
-
Mix butter with onion, mustard and poppy seeds.
-
Spread a generous amount of butter mixture on the sliced rolls.
-
Top with desired amount of ham and cheese.
-
Wrap sandwiches in foil.
-
Bake at 300 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
Snowball rolls or other soft rolls work best and are easiest to eat.
Make sandwiches in an organized assembly line.
Wrap 2 sandwiches together in foil.
