Back to School-tini

Back to School-tini

It’s a countdown, tired moms and dads of restless and bored little children. It’s almost time to go back to school! Mix up this adult cocktail that will have you falling out of summer and into the new school year.Summer is dwindling and soon gone are the days of sleeping in, sitting poolside, eating late night dinners on the deck, and spending quality time each day with the family.

Gone too will be the days of bickering children, endless trips to the grocery store, carpools to camps across town, and gigantic piles of wet bathing suits and beach towels.

I have the back-to-school bug and I’m not afraid to admit it.

I’m longing for the smell of of fresh notebooks, new pencils and clean sneakers. I’m looking forward to first day jitters, new friends, and the roar of the school bus coming down the street.

I love my little ones, of course, but I am more than willing to confess that the first day of school can’t come soon enough. I’m ready to kiss my kiddies and wave goodbye to them for a few hours and enjoy a little quiet time.

The new season promises routines and schedules and the chance for me to take a shower without interruption.  I love this time of year where we get to start fresh with new schedules.  And you know what, my little ones are ready too.

This bridge from summer to fall, loose schedules to school routines, late nights to early bedtimes, end of season to new discoveries…deserves a toast! So, I’m whipping up a drink that combines the bright summer flavors with the first tastes of a cool autumn breeze. It’s the perfect way to celebrate this transitional time of year!Back to School-tiniFirst, I start with a great vodka. Titos it is!I fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice and add an ounce of vodka.

Next, I’m adding some sweet summer flavor and pouring in a 1/2 ounce of Malibu Rum. The smell alone reminds of hot days by the pool.Up next, I’m infusing a cool autumn bite with some fresh pressed 100% apple juice. And finally, because I want some red-all-over deliciousness, I’m adding a splash of grenadine for sweetness and color.I’m shaking this up and doing a happy dance because I did it! I made it through summer in one piece!Time to strain into a martini glass and garnish with a slice of apple…a sign of school days and fall days that are just around the corner.

Grab your mommy and daddy friends, and let’s bask in the rays of these last days’ of summer and toast to new back-to-school beginnings!

Parents, let me hear your sighs of relief as you sip on this tasty and refreshing cocktail. I know you love your kids more than anything, but I see that smile on your face.

Cheers to being an all-star parent and cheers to the first day of school! Enjoy the calm that sweeps through your house on that first day. There’s nothing quite like it.
